About Me

Hi! I’m Sachin.

I live in San Francisco, California with my wife and my dog. I moved here in 2011 to join Facebook after a few years of studying Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo in Canada, where I grew up. During my seven years at Facebook, I worked on early platform partnerships, led the advertiser growth team to 3M active advertisers, and launched a few big sharing-related features inside the Facebook app.

I learned a lot about growth, operations, and product management. But most importantly, I became obsessed with how and why people communicate. I strongly believe that the keys to building great social products are encoded in age-old lessons from fields like urban planning, architecture, and sociology. Over time, I find myself thinking less about computers and more about people.

For the foreseeable future, my goal is to bring new technology into the world that extends and augments natural social behavior, and makes us better humans. Some examples of the social problems that I’m interested in tackling are reducing loneliness, strengthening close ties, global co-ordination, and bringing people together based on unusual things they have in common.

In the Fall of 2018 I left Facebook to start Cocoon with a tiny team, to explore what a futuristic digital home base for tight-knit groups should look like.
